Reading books and articles aids in understanding the issues that you care about. Want to be articulate when you make the calls to officials or even in conversation with friends? Want to eliminate that queasy or uncomfortable feeling people get when you don’t know exactly what you think (but know you should) or if you do, how to say it? Want to expand your horizons and learn more about the world around you? Read! It’s not feasible for us to list all the books in every category, but we will recommend some to get you started.

If the book is available through the Library of Congress, we’ll tell you. If it’s not, then we’ll have audio files of the book/article or it we’ll have the text on the site and you can use your screen reader or Opera to read it to you. We’ll have WinBraille files – these are printable on any Index brand embosser (Romeo, Basic-S, etc.). This is the most common brand of Braille embossers. If you don’t have that kind of embosser, we’ll have Word files you can use with Duxbury or whatever text-to-Braille translator works with your embosser. Bear in mind that the WinBraille files have not been printed out by us – so they have not been proofread in hard copy format so there may be the occasional translation error. Maybe eventually we’ll have our own Braille printer and we can just print and lend out the books ourselves!

Happy reading!
